Sesión retrospectiva del destacado cineasta de animación y profesor polaco Jerzy Kucia (1942). Este creador compartirá el proceso de trabajo de sus singulares películas y el lenguaje cinematográfico que ha desarrollado durante décadas. Además, este programa de cortometrajes se completa con el seminario que ofrecerá Kucia durante el fin de semana en el marco del festival. 

Jerzy Kucia se graduó en la Academia de Bellas Artes de Cracovia y ha trabajado como pintor, director, guionista y diseñador gráfico. Debutó en 1972 con su cortometraje Return. Ganador de premios internacionales (como el Cristal Honorífico de Annecy, en 2013) y cineasta presente en prestigiosos festivales, Kucia fue profesor y director del Estudio de Cine de Animación en Cracovia y ha enseñado en varias instituciones globales. Es miembro de la Academia Americana de Cine y de la Academia Polaca del Cine. Por sus logros artísticos, su contribución al desarrollo del cine de animación y por su labor pedagógica, se han celebrado retrospectivas de él en todo el mundo. El Centro Georges Pompidou en París o el MoMA en Nueva York son solo algunas de las sedes que han reconocido su talento, programando sus películas. ANIMARIO acoge la que será su retrospectiva número 100 con los films más destacados de este celebrado cineasta. Este programa ha sido posible gracias a la colaboración con el Instituto Polaco de Cultura y con el National Film Archive – Audiovisual Institute de Polonia.

Retrospective session of the outstanding Polish animation filmmaker and professor Jerzy Kucia (1942).This creator will share the working process of his unique films and the cinematographic language he has developed over the decades. In addition, this program of short films is completed with the seminar that Kucia will offer during the weekend within the framework of the festival. 

Jerzy Kucia graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow and has worked as a painter, director, screenwriter and graphic designer. He debuted in 1972 with his short film Return. Winner of international awards (such as the Annecy Honorary Crystal in 2013) and a filmmaker present at prestigious festivals, Kucia was a professor and director of the Animation Film Studio in Krakow and has taught at several global institutions. He is a member of the American Film Academy and the Polish Film Academy. For his artistic achievements, his contribution to the development of animated film and for his pedagogical work, retrospectives of him have been held around the world. The Georges Pompidou Center in Paris or the MoMA in New York are just some of the venues that have recognized his talent, programming his films. ANIMARIO hosts what will be his 100th retrospective with the most outstanding films of this celebrated filmmaker. This program has been made possible thanks to the collaboration with the Polish Institute of Culture and the National Film Archive - Audiovisual Institute of Poland.

POWRÓT (THE RETURN, 1972, 10')
Un hombre que viaja en tren se pierde en una ensoñación en la que regresa a su infancia. Cuando el tren se detiene y los sueños desaparecen, el hombre, encorvado y cansado, camina lentamente hacia el andén. / A man on the train becomes lost in a daydream in which he goes back to his childhood. When the train stops and dreams disappear, a tired hunched man walks slowly onto the platform.

SZLABAN (THE BARRIER, 1977, 6')
La caída de una barrera detiene el tráfico antes del paso a nivel. La gente, cuyas rutinas se han visto interrumpidas, empieza a cavilar, a recordar el pasado y a soñar despierta. Tras la salida del tren, la barrera vuelve a levantarse y se reanuda el tráfico. / A falling barrier stops the traffic before the level crossing. People, whose routine activities have been interrupted, begin to muse, think back about the past and daydream. After the train departure the barrier goes up again and the traffic is resumed.

REFLEKSY (REFLECTIONS, 1979, 6')
Después de mucho esfuerzo, un insecto sale del capullo. De repente es atacado por otro insecto. Se produce una lucha a vida o muerte. Los insectos, en un abrazo mortal, caen en un charco. Un hombre se acerca a ellos. Cuando se aleja, los insectos están pisoteados en una huella de zapato. / After much effort an insect comes out of the cocoon. Suddenly it is attacked by another insect. Life-or-death fight ensues. The insects, in a deadly clinch, fall into a puddle. A man is approaching them. When he has walked away the trampled insects will be lying in a shoe track.

PARADA (THE PARADE, 1986, 14')
La cosecha evoca el tiempo transcurrido, así como reflexiones y recuerdos. La secuencia de acontecimientos ha sido sustituida en esta película por la secuencia de recuerdos. / The term "harvest" evokes the time that has passed as well as reflections and memories. The sequence of events has been replaced in this film by the sequence of memories.

STROJENIE INSTRUMENTÓW (TUNING INSTRUMENTS, 2000, 16')
Cine contemplativo donde la reflexión existencial es más importante que la acción tradicional. En esta ocasión la reflexión concierne a todo lo que se ha ido irreversiblemente, el tiempo pasado. / Contemplative cinema where existential reflection is more important than traditional action. On this occasion reflection concerns everything that is irreversibly gone, the past time.

FUGA NA WIOLONCZELĘ, TRĄBKĘ I PEJZAŻ (FUGUE FOR CELLO, TRUMPET AND LANDSCAPE, 2014, 18')
Tras trece años de silencio, Kucia regresó con esta meditativa historia en forma de película poética basada en una relación entre imágenes y música. La película muestra el proceso de evocación de sentimientos y la búsqueda de la especificidad del paisaje mediante el relato de acontecimientos que han tenido lugar en él. / Jerzy Kucia is back after thirteen years of silence with this meditative story in the form of a poetic film based on a relationship between images and music. The film shows the process of evoking feelings and searching for landscape specificity by recounting events which have taken place in the scenery.
