ANIMARIO 2024

En esta edición, las fechas de ANIMARIO se acercan a las luces de Navidad y a la temperatura de nuestro país invitado: Polonia, un país que une tradición y modernidad en insólitas animaciones que extienden su influencia sin descanso.

El festival recibe a dos de sus grandes figuras, Jerzy Kucia y Marta Pajek, así como a los míticos hermanos Quay, quienes estrenan en Madrid su largometraje Sanatorium Under the Sign of the Hourglass, basado en la obra homónima del escritor polaco Bruno Schulz.

Este año, el festival celebra la séptima edición, inaugurando con la película Rock Bottom, una producción española con participación polaca, dirigida por María Trénor, lo que subraya el buen momento de la animación española.

La Competición Internacional cuenta con la mayor participación hasta hoy, ampliando su oferta de tres a cuatro sesiones. Entre los films destacados, se incluyen animaciones de marionetas como Adiós, de José Prats, y Beautiful Men, de Nicolas Keppens, además del nuevo corto con dibujos de la oscarizada Torill Kove, Maybe Elephants. También se proyectarán los cortometrajes ganadores de Annecy, Percebes, de Alexandra Ramires y Laura Gonçalves, y 27, de Flóra Anna Buda. Este año, las historias son más maduras y variadas, con un enfoque personal, a menudo bañado con humor. La Sección Oficial presentará veinticinco títulos de quince países diferentes, junto con cuatro largometrajes y cuarenta y seis cortometrajes en secciones paralelas.

Por primera vez en Madrid, el festival presenta una gran retrospectiva de la animación polaca, una de las cinematografías más audaces del mundo. En las sesiones Polonia, la animación quimérica queda reflejada la tradición literaria, plástica y musical del país, a través de animaciones firmadas por pioneros, maestros y jóvenes autores.

Sanatorium Under the Sign of the Hourglass es la película más reciente de los autores de Street of Crocodriles, que han trabajado en ella durante una década. Esta será una oportunidad única para ver la película y asistir a una charla con sus autores, los hermanos Quay.

ANIMARIO continúa apoyando la animación española con estrenos y proyecciones de cortometrajes, así como con la entrega del premio al mejor proyecto de cortometraje español seleccionado entre una veintena de propuestas. Además, Madrid Film Office ofrecerá un completo programa de conferencias que darán cuenta del estado de la animación en nuestro país.

In this edition, the dates of ANIMARIO are close to the Christmas lights and the temperature of our guest country: Poland, a country that unites tradition and modernity in unusual animations that extend their influence relentlessly.

The festival welcomes two of its great figures, Jerzy Kucia and Marta Pajek, as well as the mythical Quay brothers, who premiere in Madrid their feature film Sanatorium Under the Sign of the Hourglass, based on the work of the same name by Polish writer Bruno Schulz.

This year, the festival celebrates its seventh edition, opening with the film Rock Bottom, a Spanish production with Polish participation, directed by María Trénor, underlining the good moment of Spanish animation.

The International Competition has the largest participation to date, expanding its offer from three to four sessions. Among the outstanding films are puppet animations such as Adiós, by José Prats, and Beautiful Men, by Nicolas Keppens, as well as the new short film with drawings by Oscar winner Torill Kove, Maybe Elephants. The Annecy winning short films Percebes, by Alexandra Ramires and Laura Gonçalves, and 27, by Flóra Anna Buda, will also be screened. This year, the stories are more mature and varied, with a personal approach, often bathed in humor. The Official Selection will present twenty-five titles from fifteen different countries, along with four feature films and forty-six short films in parallel sections.

For the first time in Madrid, the festival presents a great retrospective of Polish animation, one of the most daring cinematographies in the world. In the Poland, Chimera Animation sessions, the country's literary, plastic and musical tradition is reflected through animations signed by pioneers, masters and young authors.

Sanatorium Under the Sign of the Hourglass is the most recent film by the authors of Street of Crocodiles, who have been working on it for a decade. This will be a unique opportunity to see the film and attend a talk with its authors, the Quay brothers.

ANIMARIO continues to support Spanish animation with premieres and screenings of short films, as well as with the awarding of the prize for the best Spanish short film project selected from among twenty proposals. In addition, Madrid Film Office will offer a full program of conferences that will give an account of the state of animation in our country.
